Since 1974
CBE was founded 35 years ago as Capitol Business Equipment, Inc. The company began with calculators and typewriters making up the primary product line. As technology advanced, the need for point-of-sale equipment became more demanding, and the company changed its total focus to selling and supporting point-of-sale equipment to the hospitality/C-store industry. It was at that time the company adopted the shortened version of Capitol Business Equipment and became known as CBE.

The company began earning profit in its first year. The pace was slow and methodical which afforded the ability to avoid costly mistakes like those made by more agressive start-ups. From the original two employees, the steady growth rate of CBE has evolved into today's staff of over one hundred full-time employees.

It is the aim of CBE to become the leading supplier of point-of-sale systems and digital surveillance to the C-Store industry with the strongest focus on service and relationships with our customers. The company will achieve its goals by maintaining the reputation of providing the most advanced and comprehensive systems for its customers. Accordingly, CBE will consistently strive to be the company that does whatever it takes to achieve customer satisfaction.

The Marketing Plan

Compete - Don't Compare
A poem which eloquently describes our philosophy in regard to assessing the competition.

When we make comparisons of ourselves with others whom we feel are more successful, we generally end up doing one of two things. We may either give others more value and worth than we give ourselves or we make critical remarks about them to lessen their accomplishments, hoping that our own will be recognized. In either case we do nothing to improve our own position in life.

If we want to get on with this business of becoming the very best we possibly can, we need to turn our attention to what we are doing, not to what others have or haven't done. Let them have whatever they want. Let them do whatever they want to do. You and I are not in competition with them.

We are in competition with ourselves- our own talents- our own abilities- our own skills. This is the competition whose reward is the greatest because the struggle- the clash is between what we are and what we are capable of becoming.

Our least concern should be whether we are better or worse than other people. There will always be others who accomplish more than you or I no matter how hard we work. They may have more resources to work with. That's part of life. But because they have more doesn't make you or I less. What they achieve doesn't diminish the opportunities for you and I to achieve also. There's room in the world for all of us to achieve- to grow- to become the very best we possibly can.

Compete but don't compare!
